We’re officially past the 50 percent mark of The Ukulele Alphabet, and what a lovely song to show us into the second half of the project. It’s like I planned it!
I’ll be honest (as I always am here) — I didn’t plan it as a statement or an introduction or anything. I chose this song more or less as an excuse to copy the incredible vocal stylings of Neko Case.
However, I can’t fully explain it, and maybe that’s the point, but the lyrics somehow encapsulate the feeling of the creative process.
And that’s something that DOES make sense as a halfway point statement as I consider the project at this stage, and what I’m learning from it, and how I continue growing with each creative idea I put forth.
Even if I can’t see what’s going to come to fruition on a project, the point is that I don’t HAVE to know what the outcome will be. I don’t need to know WHAT I’m going to get out of it — I just need to follow the urge to DO the thing in the first place.
“Yes, a heart should always go one step too far,” Neko sings. “Our path blocked, but sure we’ll / make records, then set them” — let’s go places with our crazy, heart-filling ideas!
Take that thought with you this week and moving forward… to the remaining 25 songs.
