A years-ago teenage summer love affair. An iconic musician’s song playing on a radio. A wistful — but not regretful — reminiscence sparked by the music.
It’s the lyrical plot of Taylor Swift’s “Tim McGraw” and Eric Church’s “Springsteen.”
I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to those two songs separately over the years, but it took a long drive home from the grocery store last Monday for this realization to dawn on me.
I’m sure I can’t be the first person to realize this, but OF COURSE I immediately had to create my own ukulele mashup as the universe intended.
So here’s my version of “Tim McGraw / Springsteen,” just in time for your next July Saturday night. I hope you think of me, and your own memories of being 17 and awash in first love, next time you hear either of these songs.
