Hello! I’m back with the second installment of Notion 101, and to let my Star Wars nerdery shine through for a minute —
This is where the fun really begins. With databases.
Stick with me! It’s gonna get good.
By now, you’ve probably gotten the hang of using Notion for taking notes and making lists, and maybe you’ve dipped your toe into using databases through pre-existing templates.
But the true magic of Notion happens when you can harness the power of databases to create your own and use them for… well, pretty much anything you want!
Being able to create and customize databases in Notion opens up a whole new world of possibility.
And as I always say, you don’t have to be using Notion for work projects or anything with a whiff of corporate necessity to make it work for you.
I have custom Notion databases for stuff as varied as:
Thanksgiving meal planning (and daily meal planning)
keeping track of all the vinyl albums we own as well as the ones we want to buy
tracking our cats’ vet appointments, medication schedules, and catsitting expenses
having an overall packing list I can duplicate and customize for any trip I’m taking
and organizing my weekly ukulele project and performance schedule
And that’s just a few of the many ways I keep my entire life organized — and make room for more FUN — via Notion databases!
In this video, I’m going to walk you through:
how to start from scratch to create various types of databases
the different ways you can add properties to your database and how you can use these properties to organize and filter your information
how to make databases work together on a dashboard so you can see a bunch of info at a glance
Sign up for a free Notion account — and yes, it can be free for you forever! — and let’s get started making your life easier.

I’ve been a note-taker and a list-maker for as long as I can remember.
Don’t forget!
You still have 3 more days to sign up for a custom pet portrait to benefit LA-area animal shelters. We’ve raised $400 for these organizations so far — can we raise $200 more before February 28?
