Last summer, I discovered something amazing during our regular heading-up-to-New-England pit stop at Tree House Brewing in Charlton, Mass.
There was a ukulele hanging on the wall! For anyone to play if they so desired.
Obviously I desired. A ukulele in the wild is irresistible!
And so it’s become a new-ish tradition for me to play a song outside at Tree House every time we visit.1
When we stopped on our way to our New Year’s celebration in New Hampshire, I definitely wanted to do a Ukulele Alphabet song. And “Arrow” seemed like the perfect choice.
The Head and the Heart’s2 music makes me think of the open road, of nights around the campfire at the New Hampshire beach house, of quiet moments in the woods… they can be rollicking and foot-stompy, but contemplative too.
So this, their new single, was an easy choice to perform at a brewery that’s all about the wild and the woods and good times to be had outdoors.
But alas! The Tree House ukulele was missing a string this time around. So I had to grab Ophelia out of the car and do this song with my own uke.
(Remember, kids: never head out on a road trip without your ukulele.)

It doesn’t warrant a whole post, but here’s a snippet of my July 2024 visit. The Tree House ukulele does NOT stay in tune half as well as mine do.
I know, I know, the band capitalizes all the words, but the editor in me simply cannot.
