It's A Good Time Friday! - February 21, 2025
I brake for Arby's signs and give Chappell Roan a ring
Happy February and welcome to Pisces season, everyone!
Sometimes there’s no getting around it: things are heavy and hard right now1. And I am seriously considering stockpiling as much olive oil as I can possibly afford.
BUT! I’m never going to let us spiral into gloom and doom. Not when Katie Crutchfield keeps dropping new Waxahatchee singles and The Traitors keeps bringing us gold in the form of Alan Cumming every week. There’s too much beauty in the world, people!
Now, let’s get to the good times:
➡️ First and foremost, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the majesty of my Chief Floof Officer and Head Housepanther, Bixby, in his feature on MeowStack. He rightfully deserves all the attention and compliments you can give him, and would like you to remember: Don't give up on your shy bubs. They might just need some time.
➡️ As an image architect extraordinaire, Chappell Roan doesn’t half-ass anything. So I’m delighted but not entirely surprised that she would come up with the cleverly retro idea of a hotline number to market her new single, “The Giver.” Go ahead, call 620-HOT-TO-GO! I did!
➡️ When we were out in the LA area last month visiting our SoCal BFFs, we spent a bit of time driving to various shopping centers. And I’m not ashamed to say I forced my friend Lauren to make an unanticipated detour just so I could take some photos of the Arby’s in Huntington Beach and its iconic cowboy hat sign.
(And of course we had to go in and get curly fries! It is the respectful thing to do.)

All of this to say, the photos in this piece on Googie architecture in Los Angeles are everything to me.
➡️ Finally, my dear friend Joy of
is doing a Tarot February video series with super quick and illuminating card interpretations. If you’re tarot-curious, I can’t recommend Joy enough for her real-life insight into the tarot. And if you’re having trouble finding the joy among all the awful, I heartily recommend the latest missive from The Imperfectionist about finding your center of gravity rather than “living in the news.”
I loved Bixby's feature and wholeheartedly agree about never giving up on them. My Bird was so reserved for the first several YEARS of her life -- I could tell she was holding back. We made a conscious effort to pour the love on her, to always do what we could to make her feel safe (no playing tricks or doing things to make her look foolish) and she eventually opened up. And since her sister passed, she has positively BLOSSOMED and is basking in the only-child attention!
You hooked me with the cat, the old Arby’s, and CHAPPELL
