Happy final Good Time Friday of 2024, friends!1
I took this screenshot back in 2020 during some holiday special — a Disney one?? — featuring P!nk, and it never fails to make me giggle. Everybody knows a turkey!
And now you’ll never be able to sing the song the same way again either.
Now, let’s get to the good times:
➡️ If you are still looking for a cookie recipe, I must once again sing the praises of my friend Irvin’s peanut butter blossoms (with a secret ingredient). Peanut butter blossoms are the one constant Christmas cookie in our household, and this is the recipe I’ve adopted as my go-to.
➡️ As a proud Xennial and a speed-reader from a very early age, I’m surprised I didn’t put my local Pizza Hut out of business with the number of Book It! buttons I redeemed for personal pan pizzas. This article on the legacy of the Book It! program — which is still going strong and celebrating its 40th anniversary! —strikes a deep chord, and dang, I wish I still had one of my vintage buttons.
➡️ And on the childhood nostalgia tip… Last year, I splurged on a copy of the 1975 album Merry Christmas from Sesame Street and it was one of the best Christmas gifts I’ve given myself. This is the original (pre-Elmo) version and it’s far superior. And I know it’s an act of love when my husband voluntarily puts it on the turntable when he’s in the room… because the Christmas Pageant is not his favorite.
If you’re a digital kid without a record player, the album is on YouTube for your listening pleasure.
➡️ And remember: do something nice for Winter You! This year, I bought a bunch of smart plugs so I could control all the lighted garlands throughout our house without having to reach down and physically plug/unplug them every night, and DAMN. I am so DELIGHTED.
What are you doing New Year’s Eve?
Mark your calendars: I’ll be playing my final live Surprise Songs Set Project ukulele performance on December 31 at 2:00 pm EST. It will be broadcast on Instagram at @tangerinetrex and on Substack if you have the app.
The replay will go out to all subscribers shortly thereafter if you can’t make it, but I’d love to have you there! (There might be a… costume??)
AND! There WILL be a 2025 ukulele project, so keep your eyes peeled for that announcement soon.
I hope your next Friday is good as well, but you may or may not be receiving a post from me by then. It all depends on my energy levels after a week of retail work. Please be extra kind to everyone you encounter in customer service right now and every day - we are trying our best!
